Active Competitors. Real Coaches.
Every coach at DFC is an active practitioner. They don't just teach — they train, they compete, and they lead by example.
Head Coach & Co-Owner
Jiu-Jitsu
Sean didn't learn Jiu-Jitsu in Michigan. He learned it in Manaus, Brazil — training under brothers Cristiano and Angelo Carioca, competing within his first three months, and earning his blue and purple belts in one of the most serious training environments in the Amazon.
The path led to São Paulo and nearly seven years under Claudio Calasans, a multiple-time World Champion and one of the most complete grapplers alive. That's where Sean earned his brown and black belts. That's where he became a professional.
From São Paulo to Hungary, training under Max Carvalho and winning the 2022 European IBJJF No-Gi Championship at black belt Ultra Heavy in his international debut. Then to the UAE — competing for Baniyas Club, teaching under Palm Sports, and competing across the AJP Tour through Europe and North Africa. By season's end he was ranked #1 No-Gi in the World and #4 Overall on the AJP Tour.
Back in Michigan in late 2023, he connected with David Garmo and Assembly Jiu-Jitsu — a partnership that sharpened his no-gi game to another level.
His Record
Pan American IBJJF Champion. European IBJJF No-Gi Champion. Ranked #1 No-Gi in the World. Multiple IBJJF gold medals across four continents in gi and no-gi, adult and masters. ADCC competitor including the American Trials. Still actively competing.
Why Detroit Fight Company
Jiu-Jitsu gave Sean direction when he needed it, discipline when it was hard, and a community that spanned the world. Detroit Fight Company exists to do the same for others — not just to teach technique, but to change lives. That's been the mission from day one.
DFC Winter Springs is an official affiliate of Esporte Dez / Instituto Calasans Camargo. The lineage is real. The door is open.
From Detroit to the world. Now rooted in Orlando.
Head Boxing Coach
Boxing
Pat Washington is the heart and soul of Detroit Fight Company's boxing program. A former professional boxer with a 20-1 record and 15 knockouts, Pat captured the WBF Intercontinental Light Welterweight Championship in just his ninth professional fight — displaying the technical skill and two-handed power that had observers calling him one of the best-kept secrets in American boxing.
Before turning pro, Pat served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, where he represented the base as a competitive boxer. His professional career took him from the small-show circuit through the Carolinas to a main-event title fight, where he earned a clear unanimous decision for the belt.
But Pat's legacy extends far beyond his own career in the ring. He has dedicated decades to developing young boxers — not just as fighters, but as people. At DFC, Pat brings a lifetime of experience, discipline, and genuine care for every athlete who steps through the door.
Head Muay Thai Coach
Muay Thai
Paulo Games is a professional MMA and Bare Knuckle fighter whose career has been defined by an aggressive, technical fighting style and a willingness to take on the toughest opponents in combat sports. He holds black belts in Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and Kickboxing, with deep experience in Wrestling and Boxing — a complete combat athlete in every dimension.
Before relocating to Florida, Paulo owned and operated his own martial arts academy in Brazil, where he developed students from total beginners through high-level competitors. That gym-owner background gives him a perspective most pro fighters don't have: he knows how to build a fighter from the ground up, and he understands what it takes to make a beginner feel welcome on day one.
His most recent professional career includes a decision victory at the Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event promoted by former UFC star Jorge Masvidal in Miami — a result that drew attention from combat sports media — followed by two consecutive BKFC victories. Across his career, Paulo has earned a reputation for durability, striking power, and a warrior mentality that shows up in his hardest fights.
At DFC, Paulo leads the Muay Thai program with the same standards he brings to his own training: discipline, technical precision, and a real fight-IQ approach to every class. He works with students of all levels — beginners, women, kids, and athletes preparing to compete. Private lessons available by appointment.
Boxing Coach
Boxing
Karl discovered combat sports at the age of nine, introduced by his father, and it didn't take long for him to fall in love with boxing. With over 11 years in the sport and 15 fights under his belt — both as a competitor and a corner coach — boxing has become a fundamental part of his life.
Karl's passion is sharing the sport with others. Whether you're lacing up gloves for the first time or sharpening your skills for competition, his coaching is built on the belief that boxing transforms people from the inside out.
Coach
Boxing & Conditioning
John "Apollo" Andrews brings an eclectic journey through combat sports and bodybuilding to the DFC coaching staff. A former MMA fighter and current IFBB professional bodybuilder, John's greatest asset is the depth of knowledge he's built across disciplines — and his ability to pass it on.
Whether he's running conditioning circuits, coaching striking fundamentals, or helping members dial in their training, John combines competitive intensity with a coach's eye for development.
Women's Program Coach
Jiu-Jitsu
Hana Radi began her Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2020, initially looking for a way to break up the routine of weight training. It didn't take long to realize she had found something much deeper. Jiu-Jitsu challenged her mentally and physically in ways she had never experienced, and she quickly understood that growth in this sport comes down to one thing: consistency.
Through training, Hana has learned to face discomfort head-on — whether that means stepping onto the competition mats or pushing through tough sessions. As a brown belt competitor, she leads DFC's Women's Only Gi Jiu-Jitsu program with a coaching philosophy built on the belief that iron sharpens iron. Her classes are challenging, supportive, and designed for women of all experience levels.
Jiu-Jitsu Coach
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu
In 2021, John stepped onto the mats for the first time at 290 lbs with a simple conviction: if he was going to ask his kids to compete in combat sports, he had to be willing to do it himself.
What started as leading by example became a complete transformation. Over 100 lbs lost, a competition purple belt earned, and a growing collection of IBJJF hardware — including gold at No-Gi American Nationals, silver at the Pan-American No-Gi Championships, and two bronze medals at the No-Gi World Championships.
But the medals aren't the point. John's real passion is coaching kids. In a world of endless screens and manufactured comfort, he believes combat sports offer something irreplaceable — real challenge, real consequence, real growth. The kind of resilience that can't be downloaded. He started this journey to show his own children what was possible. Now he's Detroit Fight Company's biggest cheerleader — and the guy making sure every kid who walks through the door gets that same opportunity.
Kids Jiu-Jitsu Coach
Jiu-Jitsu
Wrestling took over Luis's life at 15 years old. After graduating high school with college wrestling scholarships in hand, he chose a different path — four years of service in the United States Marines, where he became a shooting instructor and rose to the rank of Sergeant.
After the military, Luis found Jiu-Jitsu and earned his blue belt while competing across multiple organizations — winning an IBJJF Open, two NAGAs, and a New Breed tournament, with additional podium finishes along the way. He's also spent the past year sharpening his boxing alongside the DFC coaching staff.
Luis brings a wrestler's work ethic and a Marine's discipline to coaching the next generation. He also serves as a high school wrestling coach, and at DFC he channels that experience into developing young athletes through the kids Jiu-Jitsu program.
Coach
Jiu-Jitsu
Zack Quinn was ten years old when he walked into American Top Team Winter Springs and found his calling. Fourteen years later, that early introduction to Jiu-Jitsu has grown into a complete martial arts background spanning BJJ, boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and MMA. Now a purple belt competitor at 24, Zack brings the perspective of someone who grew up in the sport — technically sharp, endlessly curious, and genuinely invested in the athletes he coaches.
Coach
Jiu-Jitsu
Johny Desir's martial arts journey began on the wrestling mat in high school, where he discovered a passion for combat sports that never let go. From wrestling he moved into boxing, then MMA, before finding his foundation in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2014. After a decade of dedication, he earned his black belt in 2024. Johny brings a complete grappler's perspective to the DFC coaching staff — grounded in wrestling, sharpened by competition, and built on the kind of consistency that turns passion into mastery.
